About
B I O
Hello! My name is Maike and I am currently in my last year studying Performance Costume BA (Hons) at Edinburgh College of Art, and training in both designing and making. I am highly enthusiastic and interested in all areas of costume production.

Central to my design process is in-depth research, which helps me re-interpret the material or prompt to create a unique and impactful performance relevant to the audience and context. My design style is versatile and suited to the production.

Equally, I have developed an extensive knowledge of historical and contemporary pattern cutting, working precisely and ensuring a perfect fit. I am able to work with patterns as well as drape and develop my own. I have created bold and sculptural costumes with challenging requirements, such as weight distribution of headpieces, costumes for movement and dance pieces and the use of unconventional materials, and enjoy finding creative solutions to technical challenges. I have worked with a range of materials, textile techniques and dyes to support the narrative, ranging from diy methods to handling special equipment, such as soldering, casting and jewellery work, or using Adobe CC and ProCreate for digital printing, screen and gocco printing and lasercutting.

Experienced in dressing on student films, theatre productions, dance and opera performances and fashion shows, I enjoy working collaboratively as well as taking initiative. Due to my experience in professional productions and settings as well as my background as a performer, I am well-adapted to working in high-pressure environments and thinking on my feet. My multi-cultural background and communicative personality allow me to connect with people quickly. I am also fluent in English, German, Spanish and French.

I love learning and pushing my creative boundaries, and seek all types of work related to costume once I graduate!
